This is such a simple reminder that I hesitate to even do a post on it, but here goes: serve your family fresh fruit every day at breakfast! It is a sweet and delicious treat, and gets them started right away on their 9 daily recommended servings of fruits & veggies. Vary up the colors, especially now that all of the gorgeous berries and stone fruits are in season. Make a mixed fruit kabob for the picky ones, that always gets them. Fruit juices don’t have the same fiber and don’t keep their bellies satisfied for as long, so skip juice and go with whole fruit. Add some whole grain toast or cereal, and either milk, cheese, or an egg, and you’ve got an awesome well-rounded breakfast that will stick to their ribs—and not lead to a sugar crash-and-burn at 10am.
